By Toni's side, I've been chasing the question of love for decades, most recently across 100,000 miles of highway and conversations with everyone from quantum physicists and psychologists to stand-up comedians, Buddhist monks, and the families of death row inmates. We've worn out motorcycles and filled terabytes. We're still at it.
What keeps emerging is an understanding of love not as a feeling, not as an action, but as something far more profound: the way reality creates, connects, and calls us forward.
The Cartographer's Log is where those discoveries land. Essays, stories, reflections from the road, interviews, and the occasional dispatch that defies category. If you've ever found yourself asking that same question, or suspected that there's more to love's story and your own, pull up a chair.

Everyone says they know love when they see it. So why did a thousand people walk past?
Amid the skateboarders, tourists, street hustlers, and local business people going about their days in Philadelphia’s John F. Kennedy Plaza - better known as LOVE Park - and with the staccato rhythms of an African drum troupe inspiring the crowds to dance, we battle the park’s massive, splashing fountain for a place to capture clear audio. The recording environment is impossible, but that’s fine. The visual of our first interview beneath the iconic LOVE sculpture will prove far more compelling than anything the microphone catches.
There, an attractive, vibrant, twenty-something woman appears eager to share some adventure when two leather-clad bikers bearing cameras approach her from the milling crowd, introducing themselves as love story hunters from South Dakota who want to hear her thoughts about life and love. Primping her hair as we assure her that we’ll send along a link to the video for her undoubtedly active social media pages, we hit “record” and open with our Big Question: “What is love?”

This is the first spiritual quest memoir told from the perspective of a long-term couple.
